Weekend of ‘me time’ at Conference … planning the escape!

Can’t believe we are at the end of March already. Crocus, daffodils and lighter, brighter evenings – though each week I have a brightly lit spot on my calendar – my Highland Hustle Class!
I love my Wednesday evenings – having mastered a “tricky flicky step” over the past few weeks we are trying some new routines. In our heads we are the Riverdance Team, dancing to Galway Girl, you can’t help smiling!
But, the big bright spot I have to look forward to, is this year’s Highland Hustle Conference – only 217 days to plan my escape!

All I ask is 36 hours of pure me time.

I will not be mummy of, wife of, or finder of all that gets lost in the house. It’s not that hard, surely, just throw a selection of fitness kit, trainers, a party dress, maybe some heels in the car and go….

Reality check – our family dynamic can be quite tricky – two busy boys whose additional support needs mean that everything has to be just so ….

What I need to start doing now is calling in favours from family & friends (and stacking up brownie points in case I need emergency favours nearer the time) to hold the fort whilst I’m away. If the preparation for the last two years is anything to go by then lists & post-its will litter the kitchen – meals are prepped, activity timetables have been left out, appropriate clothing is left out – there is every possibility my youngest would go to his dance class in wellies and PJs if left to his own choices – not forgetting notes for all the “just in case” scenarios. I hear cries of control freak, but it works for our family and means I can throw my one bag (can’t even remember the last time I was packing for just me) in the car, breathe out and go.

The planning and lists are worth every minute. I know that as soon as I get there, old friendships will be renewed and new friendships will be made.  Highland Hustlers like to laugh and there will certainly be plenty of giggles as we all try to master new steps, skills and swap stories – remembering left and right can be quite a challenge! Last year I learned about this “blogging” malarkey, which I highly recommend.

Without fail I have come away feeling inspired, enthused, possibly a little fitter – and exhausted but in a good way. If you are thinking I don’t think I can manage, I bet you can, this is for you, just you, and the Highland Hustle Family will support you whilst you are there.

Just to reassure you – my family, including the cat, had all survived without me, all fed, and got to dance/swim / play dates/outings without incident. A weekend of win, win all round I think. Didn’t someone sports related say “Just Do it” …. See you at the Conference!

The Highland Hustle Conference takes place on 26th and 27th October 2019 in Perthshire.  All welcome and last year was sold out!
