Highland Hustle Hero Charlene looks to inspire others

Introducing Charlene McMahon as our first ‘Highland Hustle Hero’ to take on the role of helping to inspire others in the Highland Hustle vision …

When Charlene’s Mum took her along to local Highland Dance Classes little did she know how much it would become a huge part of their life in years to come.

Charlene started attending Highland Dance lessons as a child at age 6 in Edinburgh.  Whilst attending classes at the Paterson School of Dance she went on to win numerous Highland Dance Championships including the European, British and Scottish National titles.  Charlene recalls her proudest dance moments as winning the Oscars (the Highland Dance version!) in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

After becoming a Mum in her early 20’s, Charlene had stepped away from competitive Highland Dance and was particularly nervous to train as a Highland Hustle Instructor but she needn’t have been as Charlene is a fantastic Instructor! Charlene was actually too nervous to attend a course in person so opted for the online option instead. Many people are surprised to hear that now when they see what a natural Instructor she has become.

Charlene is a really great Instructor and took on board all the feedback and constructive advice she has been given at all stages since training in 2015.  Although really shy to start with, Charlene has really impressed me over a long period of time.

Loyal, hard working and encouraging to others.  I’ve been looking for a natural person to take on this additional leadership and training role to represent Highland Hustle  and had decided to invite Charlene quite a while ago but have waited until the time was right.

I am delighted to have Charlene take on this role and want to acknowledge her progress, hard work and natural talent in this role!

The decision to invite Charlene in a lead role was further cemented when Gillian received an email from a class attendee to let her know just how fantastic Charlene’s classes are.  This was particularly impressive as it came from another Highland Hustle Instructor (Erin) who had trained up after attending classes and being inspired by Charlene.

It may sound a bit corny but Charlene says that it is true …

Of course, she also looks great too!  But, after two children Charlene also loves the social aspect of her weekly Hustle classes as well as the physical challenges.  She has even gone back to traditional Highland Dance too and had to get her pre-pregnancy Highland Dance jacket taken in!

Ultimately, it is fantastic to have someone as passionate about Highland Hustle as Charlene on board to take on this position and look forward to her sharing her knowledge and experiences with others.
