The beginners guide to Highland Hustle

Recently I  was chatting to a new beginner class member …

She told me how daunting it was to start the class when she knew none of the moves, was worried about how she would cope as a complete beginner dancer and not as fit as she once was.  So, I decided to go along to a few other classes out there to put myself in the shoes of being a ‘newbie’ once again.

I’m not going to lie … it felt a bit daunting, particularly as I went along on my own.   When I told a friend later, she looked at me as if I was crazy.  After all, I created Highland Hustle, yet I felt anxious about going to a new class!

So, I decided to put to put together a beginners practice guide to getting started Highland Hustle

Anyone that has spoken to me about Highland Hustle will know that I created the class to help get others dancing no matter age, shape or ability.  It is so important to me that Highland Hustle is welcoming and can attract a huge variety of people.  I also love to spread the word about what got me here in the first place – Highland Dancing!

I also frequently hear from people that they are worried that they won’t be able to do any of the steps or moves in a Highland Hustle class.  I always suggest that a new participant gives the class three weeks to learn the basic movements and then picking up routines will be so much easier and fun.

This short, simple video guide allows complete beginners to learn and practice the main four movements that will always be in every class, gain confidence and learn the basics …

Classes all have a variety of intensity and difficulty levels that are built into the routines for Instructors and all to some amazing music.

If you are thinking that this class sounds or looks good then feel free have a go at the short video. You can practice a few times before you go along, pop some music on in the background and give it a go! Take a friend or go along on your own. I’m guessing that there will be someone else there who either felt of feels the same as you and Instructors will try to help you feel at ease.

Highland Hustle is all about having fun and enjoying engaging the brain and body in a dance routine to brilliant music.  Many of the movements originate from Highland Dancing but you don’t need to have danced before to join in.

I think it’s great, but I would and I’m biased so please do find out for yourself!

What to wear to class:  Normal workout clothes and trainers.  Bring a drink of water too!  Some people like split sole dance trainers, but these don’t suit all people and are not essential!
